Irish Open Golf
Killarney 28th July - 31st July 2011
The Irish Open was previously played in Killarney in 1991 and 1992 when Nick Faldo was the winner and again in 2010 when it was won by Ross Fisher.
Most of the top players praised the Killarney venue highly and were in favour of it returning in 2011. Paul McGinley said, “I’m not suggesting we stay here forever but I’d like to see it coming back next year with a little bit more rough. "
Champion Ross Fisher said, “It was a great location. There’s no set in stone we are coming back next year, but I really hope it’s here for many more years.”
An so it was decided that Killarney was to be the venue again in 2011. Apart from the Killeen course which the top golfers love, the availability of top quality accommodation for both competitors and spectators was a major factor in deciding the venue.
Killarney is usually busy during July but with around 40 hotels and hundreds of Bed and Breakfasts in the area it can easily cater for all.
However early booking is strongly advised to avoid disappointment.
